Draft Technical Notes supporting the Guidelines for the Economic Assessment of Mining and Coal Seam Gas Proposals

Draft Technical Notes supporting the Guidelines for the Economic Assessment of Mining and Coal Seam Gas Proposals are currently on public exhibition.

The Department of Planning and Environment seeks feedback on the content of the nine technical notes. They cover a range of environmental, heritage, social and transport related issues to be considered when developing State significant development (SSD) mining and coal seam gas proposals.

SSD mining and coal seam gas proposals are subject to an integrated social, environmental and economic impacts merit assessment. The draft technical notes along with the social impact assessment guideline will help ensure assessments of proposals are informed by robust data and transparent analysis.

To ensure consistency and reduce duplication in the environmental impact statement, information collected with the Guidelines for the Economic Assessment of Mining and Coal Seam Gas Proposals, can also be used for:

• cost-benefit analysis
• local effects analysis
• social impact assessment.
