Revised Sydenham to Bankstown Corridor Urban Renewal Corridor Strategy

I wish to lodge my objection for the zoning changes being proposed for the Sydenham to Bankstown corridor. I have lived in Canterbury all my life and believe it to be a beautiful place with open spaces and easy access to public transport. I am horrified by the current over development of the area with no consideration for residents. No additional infrastructure has been put into place and we see an increase in the traffic on Canterbury rd and more accidents occurring because of a lack of planning. Due to the mismanagement of council we see buildings being approved which are not in harmony to the local landscape. All they care about is additional rates which is obviously not being used to improve the roads. My street has no apartments and only a few double storey dwellings. There are also a few dual occupancy houses but that is it. To rezone the street for 9 storey apartments is ludicrous. We all chose to live here for one reason and that is single dwelling housing giving us that open space. We generally all know one another and look out for each other. This does not occur in high rise apartments when people are known to keep to themselves. We do not want to see our street destroyed. I am fine with the redevelopment of the Canterbury business area as long as parking is provided. This area does look derelict and could use a face lift. However, stay aware from the surrounding streets! This proposal will change our whole way of life in a negative way. The Australian dream is to own your own home with a nice backyard, this will soon be a thing of the past should this proposal go ahead. Children need open spaces to play and explore and that's what we have here in Canterbury. People move to Australia for this very dream, not to have it look like an Asian country full of high rises. I am very disappointed in the direction these plans are going and strongly oppose the rezoning of Canterbury.
