Change to mining policy

I support the proposed changes that would see the repeal of the resources significance clause, for the simple reason that no amount of economic benefit from mining that produces greenhouse gases, is worth the damage inflicted on our one precious climate. For too long decision-makers have used the excuse of economic benefit alone to justify any amount of environmental degradation. Knowing what the world's experts on climate have been telling us for 40 years, it is no longer an option to continue to ignore the devastation inflicted on a global scale by continued mining activities.

I hope this wise decision to repeal the resource significance clause is coupled with a strategy to increase the uptake of renewable energy options in NSW. This is the real economic opportunity for the future.
