Sutherland Shire Environment Centre, Sutherland NSW, made the following submission on the project:

Change to mining policy

SSEC fully supports the proposal to change mining regulation to restore balance for communities and the environment, This is a really important first step in improving mining laws in NSW. However, there is still a lot of work to do to bring fairness back to mine assessments. Reforms are needed to protect communities and the environment from mining decisions. We therefore ask that the Govenrment consider repealing clause 12AB as well, which prevents the PAC from imposing more stringent air quality and noise controls than the regulation sets out, and ditching their "Major Projects Offset policy" that will allow Rio Tinto to get away with clearing the vanishing Warkworth Sands Woodland for their mine.
